The Carrot That Changed My Mind!

Who would think that a carrot, a commonly eaten vegetable, could change one's mind, my mind?  Well, it did.  It happened one day while I was at a farmer's market and walked past a vendor who was selling vegetables.  The sign behind him read "organic" so I asked him.  "Do you use any pesticides on your food?"  "No."  I asked him because some organic farmers use some pesticides.

He  uses no pesticides, even though it is more labor intensive and expensive.  He continued describing what he does to prevent bugs and as he was talking I noticed that he was selling carrots.  They were small in size and he was charging $3 for the bunch, more than the $1.50 and $2 a bunch that many other vendors charge.

What was so special about these carrots?   I had to know so I bought a bunch.  As soon as I came home, I decided to try one carrot.  It was the best tasting carrot that I ever ate.  All I needed was one to fill me up.  It changed my perspective.  I then understood what food raised in nutrient rich soil tasted like- more nutrition, better tasting!  Now I look for food that is raised in healthy soil that sometimes isn't so pretty.

Stay Focused or You Might Text....

This person will remain anonymous although she probably won't mind the story being told. She has a good sense of humor and can laugh at herself. Maybe she laughed at the text that she sent me. I do not know.

This is what happened. This woman plays cards with me and a couple of other people. We agreed to play on a Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday 2:30 p.m. arrived and she was ot there. While we waited for her we began shuffling the cards. Fifteen minutes later she arrived. We played for two hours. Once I arrived back home, I checked my cell phone for messages. That is when I saw the message from her. This is what she wrote as she rushed to get ready to leave her home to play cards. "I am leaving soon. Just have to take someone out of the oven." She must have seen her error and quickly corrected it with one word "something." I texted her back and asked her who was in her oven? I did not hear back. She is too busy to answer such a frivolous question.

A Visit From Donald

People say that dreams can be very revealing. There is some truth to this, and much of it may be in the interpretation. I have no idea what my Sunday night's dream means. I would not have chosen to have Donald, you know who (in the big white house on the east side of the country), visit me in my dreams. We have not met personally and I don't often think about him

Farmers' Market

This is what may have been the source, at least part of it, my dream. Earlier in the day, I went to the farmer's market and spent an hour buying produce and talking with the vendors.

Afterwards, I stopped at Home Depot to recycle old batteries and light bulbs. Once the recyclables were taken care of, door locks and duplicate keys were needed. Unfortunately, the store was busy and apparently it would be a long wait to get help. There was an independent hardware store close by so there is where I went.

As the day went on, I didn't think much more about my morning, and began creating some new recipes for a cookbook that hopefully will be finished next year. I made myself some homemade chai tea to keep me company in the kitchen. Three hours later, the food experimenting left me with dishes, pots, pans, measuring cups, spoons and a few more things to clean. Disliking a messy kitchen, I took time to make the chaos disappear. An hour plus a few minutes later it was done and I was tired, a happy tired, knowing that the kitchen was clean.

Yes It was Him!

I could not get to bed quick enough. Somewhere in the night, the dream happened. That is when Donald, the Donald that the world has come to know since 2016, paid a visit. He was tall with that undeniable signature hair and the blue jacket and the red tie Yes it was him. Here is the story.

He broke into my house but no glass was shattered and no door was opened. I don't know how he got inside. I told him that I was going to call the police and he stood right next to me as I picked up the landline phone in the hallway. I called the police and told the person on the other end of the phone that Donald had broken into my house. Donald continued hovering over me without saying a word. The voice on the other end of the phone asked "Donald who?" I began stuttering and stammering. His last name wasn't in my memory. Meanwhile, Donald walks out the front door and I continue talking. Without a name, nothing can be done.

How Was The Chamber of Commerce Meeting?

As I am about to hang up the phone, Donald comes back into the house. He broke in again and again no door or window was broken! He comes up to me and asks "How was the Chamber of Commerce meeting?" Before I could answer him he asked another question? "How is your business doing?" He seemed oblivious to what he had done. Maybe it didn't mean anything. Then I woke up. Anyone else have a Donald dream? Care to share?

2020 Predictions

Suggestions for your own self-care during these turbulent times.
  • Quiet time and staying centered are invaluable commodities.
  • Invest in your mental and physical wellness. It is as good as money in the bank, maybe better.
  • When making purchases remember the earth. Your money is a powerful ways of speaking out. Be an activist.
  • Question facts. Not everything is as it seems.
  • Find your passion. You being alive and also feeds the world.
Does nothing appear to be the same? Does much seem different? The weather can't be predicted leaving us to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. That is just the beginning of a changing world. Changes can be observed in our schools, workplace, doctors' offices and more. Our thinking is also changing. It is happening on a global level.

Not everyone wakes up and observes the changing world. Not everyone understands that the world is shedding its old skin so a new one can be born. Some people will not go back to old ways and are searching for, discovering, and demanding new possibilities/solutions.

People are waking up in places that might surprise you. For example, a small take-out food place that might be considered a hole in the wall, suddenly stops using plastic plates favoring more environmentally friendly ones that biodegradable. Plastic straws are no long available to customers and brown napkins made from recycled paper are available.

We are face crises that are physical, emotional, and spiritual. Myths are crumbling around us. Some include:
  • Human dominance of over other humans, nature and animals are just a way of life.
  • Problems will go away on their own.
  • Consumption feeds the soul.
  • Some humans are more valuable than others.
  • Security comes in the from of monetary currency.
  • Freedom is guaranteed.
New Questions Are Emerging
  • What makes people successful?
  • What constitutes a meaningful life?
  • What does it means to take a different path?
  • What does conformity really signifies?
Climate Change

This has become the new normal. Stop being surprised. Its costs spiral and so it's devastating effects. Hearts are broken. Lives are destroyed. Ideas are birthed for a new world . Actions are taken . New possibilities and solutions arise.

Minimum Wage

Growing demand for a $15 an hour minimum wage continues, knowing that this is hardly a living wage. It is a highly charged issue.

Journalists

They continue to be heroes and play a critical role in maintaining democracy. We need them more than ever.

Food

Consumers need to read food labels and do their research. Labels can be misleading. Time invested in playing detective is well worthwhile.'

Farmers' markets are not always a guarantee that food purchased is pesticide-free and/or organic. Even food vendors at farmers' markets need to be scrutinized. Ask other vendors who they would purchase their produce from.

Wherever you purchase and consume your food, check in with your body . It knows what it wants even when you don't.

Begin demanding better food. That means being willing to pay more for healthy food. Invest in the earth and its soil. Money well spent for everyone

Government

Distrust and skepticism grow. Remember, not all you see, hear and read is real. Gone are the days when candidates can make empty promises. People start taking back their power by demanding that politicians start working for them, not the wealthy corporations.

The old male guard is changing. More women are elected to political office at the local, state and national level and are leading the way for change.

With the elections coming up this next year, expect a lot of surprises. Remember, it is a numbers game. For change to happen, voting needs to happen in large number.

Protest Movement

Protests are here to stay.  Protesters come from all walks of life. Momentum and camaraderie are built here.

Economy

Two simple words-not good. The question may be "How Soon?" How soon will the economy crash? If not next year it will be the following year. The economy is barely treading water. Many will have less. Many will learn to live with less. Some good comes out of the ashes of the "horrible." For some it is a springboard for new ideas and creations. Sometimes people are most creative when their backs are pinned to the wall.

Creativity

Give yourself the time and energy to invest in your creative talents. During these difficult times, these endeavors can be sources of comfort and personal expression. In fact, your creative talents are calling you to give birth. Connect with that part of YOU!! It contributes to great energy and to the peace on earth that so wants to be born and take over.
