Investigate Your Hunches
We tend to move so quickly through our busy lives, many people don’t believe they have enough time to reflect. When you don’t think you have time to reflect, that is a great reason to take even a few minutes to consider current and future decision. Realistically a wrong decision can time consuming, stressful, expensive and sometimes irreversible. For example, a client was not skilled at hiring staff, and often hired poorly qualified and inappropriate candidates. When she had to fire them, it cost her company $50,000. She included other staff members to help her recruit new staff.
Become an investigator and explore your decision-making ideas, including your hunches and choices. Do your ideas make sense? Are they founded in facts? Are you trying to understand a person, an action or a situation when you don’t have all the facts?
Notice how you feel. Do you feel uneasy? Do you feel calm and/or peaceful. Ask yourself is there anything I can do before deciding. Take a few minutes to breathe, take a walk, exercise and notice the thoughts that come into your mind as well as how you feel in your body when you think about the issue. This “preventative” time and action often is worth the effort.
