I like rabbits so I am always on the lookout for a story about these critters. I have never lived with one, but I have a healthy respect and admiration for them. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to the world of these animals. Many people dismiss them as boring. Usually, these people haven’t spent much time observing them or being in their presence.
Yes, they are sometimes quieter than dogs and cats and other animals, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have an inner life full of likes, dislikes, preferences, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, insights, etc. Ask people who know them intimately, and you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. Or you might have a new opinion.
I heard one story today that reminded me how big these animals live, often leaving big impressions that are remembered long after they are gone. I had been talking to someone about how many people really don’t give rabbits enough credit for being interesting, unique and expressive. The person agreed, and proceeded to tell me about a rabbit who lived with her family. This rabbit only chewed books that were checked out of the local library. The rabbit seems to prefer gnawing on pictures of flowers.
